Welcome to the Technical Committee on Discrete Event Systems (DESTC), a part of the IEEE Control Systems Society Technical Activities Board. The DESTC was established on June 1, 1999, and subsumes the activities of the Working Group on Discrete Event Systems.

A discrete-event system (DES) is a dynamic system that is discrete in time and usually in state space; is asynchronous or event driven, that is driven by events or instantaneous happenings in time (which may or may not include the tick of a clock); and is nondeterministic, namely, embodies internal chance or other unmodeled mechanisms of choice which govern its state transitions. DES provides a general framework for many man-made systems where the system dynamics not only follow physical laws but also the logical rules. It is the focus of this TC to promote the research on modeling, analysis, synthesis, and optimization of DES. The interested topics include but do not limit to:

· Applications of discrete-event systems

· Deterministic and stochastic event-based models

· Supervisory control

· Cyber-physical systems and cybersecurity

· Networked distributed systems

· Performance analysis tools



Mission Statement

The DESTC aims to promote communication between DES researchers, scholars, students, and practitioners. We encourage participation by submitting contributions (announcements, articles, etc.) to the monthly newsletter.

Mailing list

A mailing list that consists of all committee members has been creared. To submit contributions to the mailing list, you can send an email to csstcdes-list@nd.edu, which (upon approval) will be forwarded to all members subscribed to the list. Contributions sent to this list will be automatically archived. You can access the list archives at:
